The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has recalled MamaRoo baby swings and RockaRoo infant rockers due to a possible strangulation hazard.

The MamaRoo is a swing with “multiple motions and speeds,” and the RockaRoo is a rocker that glides back and forth. Pennsylvania-based brand 4moms manufactures both products.

The CPSC has found that when the strap restraints of the rockers are not engaged, they can dangle below, potentially entangling and strangling crawling infants.

Two such incidents were reported for the MamaRoo, but none for the RockaRoo. In one instance, a 10-month-old infant died from asphyxiation when he got caught in the straps. In another, a 10-month-old suffered from bruising to his neck before a caregiver rescued him.

The swings were sold at BuyBuyBaby, Target, online at 4moms.com, and Amazon from January 2010 to August 2022. More than 2 million MamaRoo swings and 220,000 RockaRoo rockers are affected by the recall.

The recall is only for items with a three-point harness, which includes MamaRoo model numbers 4m-005, 1026, and 1037. Model number 4M-012 is the only RockaRoo model involved in the recall. The model number can be found on the bottom of the unit.

Parents who have these rockers or swings and have crawling infants are recommended to stop using them immediately and keep crawling infants from accessing them. They can contact 4moms to register for a free strap fastener to keep the straps from dangling.

The company can be reached by phone at 877-870-7390 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or by email at [email protected]. The straps can also be ordered online here.
