A speeding motorcyclist died in a north Fort Worth crash early Tuesday morning.
The collision occurred around 12:20 a.m. on August 16 at the intersection of NE 28th Street and Deen Road.
Investigators said the motorcyclist was driving eastbound at a “high rate of speed.” The motorcycle collided with a westbound vehicle, whose driver was turning onto Deen Road.
Rather than crashing into the turning vehicle, the motorcycle operator made an unusual maneuver.
“The driver of the motorcycle laid the bike down before the intersection, and the motorcycle struck the rear of the turning car,” police said. “It is unclear if the motorcycle rider also struck the car.”
Likely anticipating the crash, the motorcyclist intentionally leaned sideways until the motorcycle was horizontally scraping against the pavement. The move slowed the rider’s momentum and separated him from the bike. Despite his efforts, the motorcycle still hit the car.
The motorcycle rider died at the scene. Responders noted he was not wearing a helmet. The Tarrant County medical examiner will identify the accident victim.
The investigation remains ongoing.
