A fatal motorcycle accident shut down southbound Central Expressway lanes near downtown Dallas on Tuesday morning.

Police reported that the crash, which occurred near the Haskell Avenue exit, happened around 3 a.m. The motorcycle driver crashed into a wall and died at the scene.

The highway was shut down for several hours before officers reopened two lanes for traffic. By 7 a.m., the route resumed normal operations.

The victim’s identity was not released.

Statistically, the chances of fatality in motorcycle accidents are 30 times higher than in car accidents. The injury or death rate for motorcyclists is 80%; for car passengers, it is around 20%.
