The Mesquite Police Department announced that a Dallas Police Department (DPD) officer was arrested for alleged drunk driving on Tuesday.

Mesquite police said they received reports of someone driving erratically on the streets and conducted a traffic stop at the corner of Main Street and Belt Line Road on July 19.

The offending vehicle’s alleged driver was Detective Joe Morin, who was arrested at about 1:30 a.m.

A Dallas police spokeswoman said that Morin, 54, had been in the department since 1994 and is assigned to the Public Integrity Unit of the DPD.

The Dallas Police Department said it is conducting an internal investigation of the case. Pending the outcome of the investigation, Morin will be placed on administrative leave.

A DWI charge can either be a misdemeanor or felony in Texas, depending on the circumstances surrounding the case. It is not clear whether Morin has an attorney.
