The Fort Worth Police Department arrested a 13-year-old boy after authorities said he shot a 36-year-old man, whom the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office identified as Spenser Joseph Slavik.

Fort Worth PD officers were called to the 9100 block of Camp Bowie West Boulevard on June 22 at about 7:40 a.m. When responding officers found Slavik at the scene, he was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to The Dallas Morning News.

First responders transported Slavik to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Police detained three possible suspects, all of them juveniles, at the scene and issued an arrest warrant for the 13-year-old for murder.

At his memorial service on July 1, Slavik’s family fondly remembered how “he loved being on a computer and was considered a whiz doing anything on them.”

Moreover, Slavik’s obituary says, “he could take things apart and loved figuring out how they worked. He had a very high IQ and could figure things out very quickly before anyone else.”

The identity of the 13-year-old suspect who was arrested was not revealed because he is a juvenile. Authorities said there are no other suspects connected to the shooting, and no further details were made available.
