Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson said the city is standing by those impacted by the partial condominium collapse in Miami, Florida.
Almost 160 people went missing after a 12-story condominium building collapsed on June 24 just north of Miami, as detailed in a USA Today article.
“Praying for our brothers and sisters in Surfside, Florida. Fire and rescue personnel perform a job of which the rest of us can only stand in respectful awe,” Johnson said in a Twitter post. “God bless all of them and all of the friends and families affected by this unspeakable tragedy. Dallas stands with you!”
People Magazine reported in an article that the relatives of Peru’s first lady are among those missing.
The sister of President Mario Abdo Benítez’s wife, Silvana López Moreira, is among those unaccounted for as well as her husband and three children, as detailed in an NBC News report.
“The men and women of our @MiamiDadeFire team are the best in the world,” said Miami Mayor Daniella Levine Cava in a Twitter post. “They are working around the clock and using every strategy available to find and save as many loved ones as possible. Please keep them in your prayers.”
The death toll is expected to increase as fire officials work to recover people in the rubble.
“I’m asking the world to please pray that our men and women searching can bring good news to the families desperately waiting,” Levine Cava said in a Twitter post.
