Arlington ISD announced this year’s Back to School kickoff will be going back to its roots with an in-person event on Saturday, August 6, at AT&T Stadium from 8 a.m. until noon.

The district will provide students with free backpacks and school supplies, helping them get a head start on the 2022-23 school year. A total of 10,000 backpacks will be handed out to families who qualify for free and reduced lunches.

AISD will also provide students who sign up for the event with free dental and health screenings, immunization opportunities, and haircuts. Booths will be set up that provide information on after-school care and other community resources.

“We’re so excited about being able to return to our kickoff in a face-to-face setting,” said Aaron Perales, Arlington ISD’s executive director of engagement, equity, and access. “Seeing the look on a student’s face when they get their backpack brings joy to all that take part in the event. With great partners and sponsors, this is a wonderful opportunity to get our students ready for the first day of school.”

The district is partnering with Churches of Arlington, Arlington NAACP, Junior League of Arlington, the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Foundation, North Texas Youth Education Town, and the Arlington Youth Foundation to put on this year’s event.

Those wanting to volunteer at the event are urged to register here.

Volunteers must be 18 years and older and will help distribute backpacks to students along with other duties.
