A man was arrested after allegedly stealing a Plano Fire Department engine, according to a report on WFAA.

On May 21, the new fire engine was stolen from a Balch Springs maintenance facility, where it was getting finishing touches before being delivered.

Police in Balch Springs told WFAA that someone jumped into the truck at about 5:15 p.m. and drove off.

Dallas Police located the vehicle and stopped it in the 2000 block of Main Street in the downtown Dallas area about two hours later.

The vehicle was taken to a fire station in Dallas for safekeeping while it awaits transfer to a secure location.

The driver, 27-year-old Jose Mora, was arrested and charged with theft of property valued at $300,000 or more.

Balch Springs police said the fire engines are usually valued between $700,000 and $800,000.

Mora was also charged with a probation violation for a count of harassing a public servant, but the circumstances surrounding this charge are not clear.

Mora was taken to a Dallas County jail with bail set at $50,000.

No further information was available as of press time.
