A Texas teen was shot at a Michigan high school graduation last Thursday, authorities said.

Two people were injured in a shooting at East Kentwood High School in Michigan at about 7:20 p.m. on May 19.

School officials said the shooting happened after graduation ceremonies for Crossroads Alternative High School near Grand Rapids. About 60 graduating students, along with their families and friends, were in attendance. A middle school concert was also in progress in the high school auditorium.

Per NBC 5, Kent County Sheriff Michelle LaJoye-Young said that people in two cars outside began exchanging gunfire, resulting in two people sustaining gunshot wounds. The shooters immediately fled the scene.

Authorities identified the victims as a 16-year-old boy from Texas and a 40-year-old woman from Grand Rapids. The woman was shot twice, while the boy was shot once in the wrist. They were both taken to a local hospital, where they are in stable condition.

Kentwood school officials released a statement explaining that families were able to leave the school without a problem. The statement also assured students, parents, and teachers that the shooting was an isolated event.
