On Sunday, an altercation left two dead and at least three others seriously injured.
The shooting occurred around 1 p.m at the Sunny Flea Market in the Tia Pancha Center, located at 8729 Airline Drive in North Houston.
According to police updates on Twitter, an argument had allegedly erupted between several Hispanic males. Shots rang out during the altercation, leaving two dead.
Three other victims were transported to a local hospital in unknown conditions.
“It looks like all five of them knew each other,” said Major Susan Cotter of the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. “It doesn’t appear any innocent bystanders were injured.”
One victim has been identified as 29-year-old Juan Romero, Houston ABC wrote. Romero’s sister, Yeraldi, said that Juan’s cousin was also injured in the incident.
“It just really hurts because he’s my older brother, and I look up to him. It’s very hard,” Yeraldi said.
“There is a lot of people … just trying to come out and enjoy the flea market, have something to eat and something to drink, so it’s very tragic,” Cotter added during a press conference.
Cotter explained that the police searched for witnesses, but it was difficult to locate them because “everybody scattered” after the shooting.
Police arrested Angel Flores-Lopez on a charge of tampering with evidence in connection to the shooting, but they believe that additional suspects fled the scene after the incident.
Video surveillance from the flea market is being reviewed.
Houston Sheriff Ed Gonzalez noted that police recovered two pistols from the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. Currently, the five victims have not been charged with any crimes.
