The body of a Texas woman reported missing last week was located in the trunk of a vehicle, according to Texas City Police.
According to police, on May 11, around 2:30 p.m., investigators were called to the 400 block of 4th Street North after someone reported smelling what they thought was a decomposing body coming from a vehicle.
When officers arrived at the house, they discovered a woman’s body in the trunk of a white Honda Accord, according to police.
The victim has been identified as a previously reported missing Texas woman, 24-year-old Angela Leeann Mitchell.
Dickinson Police were also at the scene since Angela’s mother, Georgia Mitchell, had reported her daughter missing on May 6 to the police department after her daughter did not return home.
“It had become 24 hours since my last contact with her,” said Georgia. “When I tried to find out why she didn’t respond to me it went straight to voicemail and I couldn’t track her on the locator on our phones anymore. I started getting sick to my stomach.”
Angela’s mother alleges that both Texas City and Dickinson took their time finding her daughter.
“I went back to Texas City and they turned me away again for the second or third time and told me I had to file with Dickinson because she resided in Dickinson,” said Mitchell.
Police tracked her down to Texas City the same day Georgia reported Angela missing, discovered her vehicle, but found no trace of her.
Georgia claims she begged police to search her daughter’s car, but they dismissed her efforts.
KHOU 11 News contacted Texas City police to inquire about the family’s complaints, and we were told that Angela Mitchell’s case was being investigated.
According to neighbors, the vehicle had been parked in front of the house since Mother’s Day.
“They just put her in her trunk. Threw here away like she was a piece of garbage,” said Georgia. “My baby is not a piece of garbage.”
Mitchell’s mother admitted that her daughter had a history of prostitution, but she was working through it.
Angela is survived by two daughters, ages 9-years-old and 3-years-old, and two sons, ages 7-years-old and 7-months-old.
The Galveston County Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
Mainland Communities Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest or charges filed in connection to this case.
