A 51-year-old woman from Spring in Harris County has been arrested after officials said she allegedly admitted to shooting her “husband” in a jealous rage.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred at the couple’s home on May 7 after the victim reportedly told the suspect, Karin Tricia Stewart, that he was in love with another woman.

Deputies were dispatched to the couple’s residence in the 23600 block of Buttress Root Drive at about 2:21 a.m.

Upon arrival, the deputies found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. First responders took him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim was identified as James Hargrove.

Court records show that Stewart has been charged with Hargrove’s murder. As of May 8, she was being held at the Harris County Jail.

According to Click 2 Houston, although Stewart told investigators that Hargrove was her husband, another woman, who identified herself as Sandra Hargrove, claimed she was the victim’s real wife.

Sandra was present in court for Stewart’s first court appearance. She told Click 2 Houston that she and the victim have been legally married since 2009 but separated in November 2021.

Sandra added that despite their separation, they remained in contact every other day and he never mentioned being in a relationship with Stewart or any other woman.

She revealed that the victim recently recovered after being hospitalized with COVID-19 for several months and that Stewart was only his caregiver to the best of her knowledge.

“He’s still my husband,” Hargrove said tearfully. “I mean, we have grandkids, we have kids, we have nieces and nephews. That’s still my husband.”

A judge set Stewart’s bond at $75,000.
