A tiger cub seized in Laredo has been taken to In-Sync Exotics Wildlife Rescue and Educational Center in Wylie, Texas.
On April 22, the Laredo Police Department worked with Laredo Animal Care Services to confiscate the big cat, safely removing the cub from a home in Laredo and transferring it to a more suitable environment.
According to the Laredo Police Department, the possession of a tiger violates the city’s dangerous wild animal ordinance, which makes it illegal to own or keep a wild animal in Laredo.
The tiger cub was taken to In-Sync Exotics on April 24. It was then named “Minnie” at the facility.
In-Sync Exotics announced the cat’s arrival via Facebook on April 25.
“Please join us in welcoming little Minnie to her forever home and to the In-Sync Exotics family,” the post read.
While not much is known about her history, Minnie received a health evaluation upon her arrival at the center. Vets placed her age at about two months old.
Authorities said that more information will be provided on Minnie once it is available.
According to Journal Time, residents of the location where authorities seized the cub will be required to pay between $500 to $2,000 in fines. The case is still under investigation by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service.
As for the tiger cub’s new home, Vicky Keahey, In-Sync Exotics’ founder and president, told NBC 5 that it holds a future full of happiness and love.
This is not the first time Laredo authorities have confiscated a tiger in Laredo. According to Journal Time, six tigers seized within the city have been handed over to In-Sync Exotics since it opened its doors to animals about 22 years ago.
