Police officials announced that the mother of a 3-year-old boy fatally shot in late March turned herself in after she was previously out on bail. She now faces a manslaughter charge in the case.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Lacravionne Washington, 26, was arrested for outstanding warrants on March 30 and faces allegations of child endangerment and tampering with evidence in the death of her son, Jalexus Washington Jr.
The mother arrived with the child on March 28 at the Medical City Dallas Hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead. Washington initially claimed that the child was shot due to a road rage incident.
Upon investigation, the medical examiner determined that powder burns surrounding the wound indicated that the boy had been shot at close range. However, police have received conflicting stories on what actually happened regarding the child’s death.
According to a new affidavit report disclosed on Wednesday, Washington told her husband she was returning fire in a road rage incident and discovered her child had been shot.
It also states that investigators found that Washington “recklessly killed [Jalexus] and has committed the offense manslaughter,” though police did not find evidence of a road rage shooting.
Her bail was set at $50,000 for the manslaughter charge.
Her husband, Jalexus Washington Sr., is also back in police custody after bailing out of jail on a $1,500 bond for outstanding warrants unrelated to the case.
Washington Sr. was arrested on April 6 and charged with tampering with evidence. He is being held in Dallas County Jail with bail set at $25,000.
