A new mural has joined the many on display in Dallas’ Arts District. The latest artwork covers the entire side of the Fountain Place parking garage’s ten-story façade.
Richard Markham of the Goddard Investment Group, which owns the Fountain Place building, told WFAA that Goddard Investment is gifting the mural to the citizens of Dallas because the group takes its role as part of the Arts District seriously.
The new mural, an expanded version of the one Steve Penley created inside the Fountain Place Building, is so large that you can spot it while driving on Woodall Rodgers. It features iconic Texas imagery, including Reunion Tower, the Pegasus, the Cotton Bowl, Pioneer Plaza, and Big Tex.
Also featured is the face of I.M. Pei. He is a world-renowned architect who has designed buildings all over the world. Here in Dallas, he designed the Dallas City Hall and Fountain Place.
“We view the I.M. Pei architecture of Fountain Place to be a piece of sculpture,” Markham shared. “Most of the best skyline views feature our building front and center, so we are proud of that.”
In 2014, Dallas was voted Best International Skyline on USA Today’s “10 Best” list. Dallas was among twenty nominees for the honor. The Dallas skyline has been famous worldwide since the 1980s television drama Dallas, a highly-rated primetime show.
Dallas has a litany of murals, including those found in the Bishop Arts District, Deep Ellum, the Design District, Downtown, East Dallas, Henderson/Lower Greenville, the Medical District, Oaklawn, and South Dallas.
There are enough murals across the city to make a day of visiting and photographing them, though many Dallasites are already familiar with the charm of Dallas’ views.
