One of the top 10 most wanted sex offenders in Texas is now in Pecos County Jail, according to the Pecos County Sheriff’s Office.
Local authorities, acting on information from an anonymous tip received through the Texas Crimestoppers Hotline, located Braulio Davila-Luna in Boquillas Del Carmen, Mexico, an old mining town located 150 miles from the Mexican border.
Mexican authorities captured Davila-Luna and brought him to the Del Rio-Aquila Port of Entry on April 4. He was handed over to agents from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and extradited to the Pecos County Jail, where he is currently being held.
The DPS listed the Fort Stockton native as one of Texas’ 10 most wanted fugitive sex offenders since March 23.
Davila-Luna twice failed to comply with an order to register as a sex offender imposed by the state court due to his 1993 conviction for raping a 35-year-old woman. He served four years in prison for the crime, and the judge required him to register as a sex offender annually for the rest of his life.
The fugitive also had other run-ins with the law. According to the Texas DPS website, Davila-Luna was sent to jail in 2002 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and sent to a federal prison that same year for drug-related charges. He was arrested a third time in March 2020 for a parole violation but was released on March 15, 2021.
Davila-Luna had been wanted since April 26, 2021, when the United States Marshals Service issued a warrant for his arrest after he failed to register as a sex offender. On June 30, 2021, Pecos County Sheriff’s Office issued two additional warrants for the same reason.
Davila-Luna’s bonds were set at $35,000 and $70,000 for two of the warrants issued after his failure to register as a sex offender annually. He did not receive a bond for the third warrant.
In a public statement, Pecos County Sheriff T.J. Perkins thanked the Texas DPS, Department of Homeland Security, Mexican authorities, the Val Verde County Sheriff’s office, and the anonymous tipster for their participation in the safe capture and extradition of Davila-Luna. He will remain in police custody pending trial.
