Dallas Police have arrested 27-year-old Jalexus Washington Sr. in connection with the death of his three-year-old son, Jalexus Washington Jr.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the child was shot on March 28 and was pronounced dead at Medical City Dallas Hospital.

Around 1 p.m., multiple Dallas police squad vehicles were stationed outside the hospital’s emergency room door, and crime scene tape was seen enclosing the mother’s Subaru sedan.

Lacravivonne and Jalexus were last seen approximately 20 minutes before the shooting at a doughnut shop in the 9400 block of Walnut Street, according to police.

The automobile was eventually hauled away from the hospital by a tow truck. The vehicle’s exterior was free of noticeable damage.

During a search of her vehicle, authorities discovered a gun in the glove compartment, as well as a second gun in Washington Sr.’s possession.

Last Monday, Washington Sr. was detained for outstanding warrants unrelated to the case. When he learned what had happened, he told the authorities he was at work and raced to the hospital. He was free on bond prior to his following arrest on Wednesday, April 6.

The mother, 26-year-old Lacravionne Washington, was arrested on March 30 for outstanding warrants and faces charges of child endangerment and tampering with evidence.

Investigators had questioned Washington but received conflicting reports. At first, she told police her son had been an accidental victim of a road rage incident. Still, police could find no evidence that a road rage incident had taken place at the location she provided, and an autopsy later revealed powder burns around the wound, indicating that the child was shot at close range.

In another interview, Washington told police that the children had been climbing back and forth between the front and back seats when she heard two gunshots and rushed to see what happened when she found her son wounded.

Now, she is no longer cooperating with the police.

“She declined to talk further, took her into custody, charged with endangering a child that stems from a child having access to a weapon,” said Dallas Police Department spokeswoman Kristin Lowman.

Four children have been removed from Lacravivonne’s home while police examine her whereabouts on the morning of the shooting and who she may have spoken with on her confiscated cellphone.

It would be nice if we knew what state. Many states have a town/city named Dallas. Wisconsin, for one.
