Operation Kindness has opened a neonatal kitten nursery to assist orphaned kittens during “kitten season,” which runs from March to October.
While kittens should remain with their mother, some kittens become orphans with nowhere to go. This problem has prompted Operation Kindness to expand its resources with a new nursery to care for neonatal kittens that are only a few weeks old and need round-the-clock care.
When neonatal kittens enter the shelter, they are at a higher risk of being euthanized due to weakened immune systems and the inability to eat on their own until they are a month old.
Unfortunately, many shelters do not have the resources to accommodate an orphan kitten’s needs, and a kitten must be over 2 months old and 2 pounds in weight to be eligible for adoption.
Operation Kindness’ new 24-hour nursery will feed kittens every 2 to 3 hours to regulate their body temperature. Once they are healthy and old enough, they will be available for adoption.

With the opening of the neonatal kitten nursery, Operation Kindness is seeking help from the community in raising $30,000 to ensure the new program makes a significant impact on orphaned kittens.
The nursery will include warmers, incubators, blankets, bottles, formula, and 24-hour care to ensure kittens have the best chance of living a long healthy life. The community can support the new nursery by donating to Operation Kindness’ Amazon Wish List.

Operation Kindness is located at 3201 Earhart Drive in Carrollton and is open from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily.
