In 2021, new hosts in Texas earned around $170 million in total. Out of the top ten spots, the state is ranked third in the United States for new host income.

California secured the number one spot, with its hosts raking in approximately $270 million, and Florida placed second, bringing in over $265 million.

Scott Schober, a 37-year-old Dallas-based Airbnb host, began with his first property in 2015. His income increased so much that he was able to quit his first job.

“I feel like it connects me with people that come into Dallas for a variety of reasons [and they get] to see what the city is really like,” the former humanitarian aid coordinator told The Dallas Morning News.

Currently, Schober owns five North Texas properties that he rents out through Airbnb. He has profited around $75,000 as a host.

A small business couple in Mississippi, Charles and Brenda, purchased a vacation home in Miramar Beach, Florida for family and friends, only to realize that they could make an extra profit for their retirement savings. When they are not occupying the home for personal use, the pair rents their residence to travelers through Airbnb.

Since listing the home in January 2021, they have become some of the company’s top-earning new hosts.

According to Airbnb, the company recently surpassed its goal of bringing in a total of $150 billion since 2010, $60 billion of which came from the U.S.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Airbnb plans to house 100,000 Ukrainians left without shelter due to the Russian invasion. The company has created an Airbnb.org Refugee Fund to help support those in need.
