Fred Frazier Ligon
AUGUST 16, 1939 – JUNE 27, 2021
Fred Frazier Ligon passed away peacefully on June 27, 2021. Fred was born in Dallas, Texas, on August 16, 1939, son of Fred F. Ligon Jr. and Myrtle Ligon. In addition to his parents and brother Max Ligon, he was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Kathryn (Trina) Ligon, and then Judy Gear Ligon, his wife of 18 years. He is survived by his children Bill and Jenny Ligon, Rick and Anne Ligon, and Katie and John Lambert, all of Dallas. Additionally, his stepchildren Wade Gear and wife Kathy of Aledo, and Louis Gear of Dallas. Also, his ten wonderful grandchildren; Blake Ligon, Lindsey Ligon, Carter Ligon and his wife Cathryn, Olivia Ligon, Kathryn Lambert, Stephen Lambert, Gaby Gear, Katie Gear, and Libby Gear.
Fred graduated from Highland Park High School in 1957. He attended the University of Texas, where he graduated in 1961 with a degree in Business Administration. While there, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. After college, he began his reserve service in the Army which lasted six years. Fred joined his brother Max Ligon in the insurance business that ultimately became Ligon, Gump, and Ligon. The agency was sold in 1982 to Crump/Sedgwick. He joined Lockton Companies in 1998, from which he retired. As well as having a highly successful business career, his passion toward his community was an inspiration to all who were close to him. He particularly had a calling to serve in organizations that worked to better the lives of children and teens who were less fortunate. He served tirelessly on the boards of the YMCA, ChildCare Group, serving as Chair three different times, and the Salesmanship Club for 44 years. He also served on the board of VNA and volunteered for their Meals on Wheels program. In addition, Fred was a lifelong member of Highland Park United Methodist Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and on countless committees.
Fred was a Royal Oaks Country Club member, where he had a golf group he played with every Saturday for almost thirty years. Neither his golf game nor his prized Texas Longhorn football team ever lived up to his expectations, but his love for both was unconditional. Fred was described as witty, disciplined, thoughtful, honest, and passionate. Friends would joke that his opinions were like God’s grace; free and never-ending. However, his ever-present devotion to his family was the true mark of who he was.
Fred was an engaged and loving father, grandfather, friend, and especially a husband. The gentle care he provided to Trina through her prolonged struggle with breast cancer and, then again with Judy through her battle with ALS will stand as his true testimony.
