A 37-year-old Northlake woman faces preliminary felony charges after police said she stabbed her husband and two young children inside their Denton County home early Tuesday morning.
Officers responded at about 4:20 a.m. to the 1200 block of Daylily Drive after a man called to report that his wife had a knife and had stabbed him, NBC 5 reported, citing Northlake police.
Police detained Holly Leeann Flores within minutes of arriving at the home. Officers found her 34-year-old husband with head injuries and discovered the two injured children while checking the residence, according to police.
A 3-year-old girl and a 10-month-old boy both suffered stab wounds to the chest. Fire and emergency medical personnel transported the man and both children to a Fort Worth hospital.
Police expect children to survive
Northlake Police Chief Robert Crawford said during a Tuesday morning news conference that he expected the children to survive. They remained hospitalized with family members, FOX 4 reported.
“I don’t believe they’re life-threatening. They’re still in hospital for observation, but I believe they are going to be okay,” Crawford said of their injuries, according to FOX 4.
The husband’s head wound was not life-threatening, the outlet reported.
Flores also went to a Denton hospital for observation and treatment before authorities took her to the Denton County Jail, according to police.
Preliminary charges and earlier calls
Police said preliminary charges against Flores include two counts of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, The Cross Timbers Gazette reported.
Officers had responded to the home about five times since March, mostly for welfare concerns, Crawford said. He declined to elaborate on those concerns while investigators continued their work. Police had not established a motive, according to FOX 4.
In a separate Arlington case last week, a 5-year-old died after a stabbing and a second child suffered injuries, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
