Dallas police confirmed to The Dallas Express that a firearm found on Hunter Holmes during his September 10 arrest had been reported stolen.
The revelation follows The Dallas Express’ reporting on Holmes’ arrest during an anti-Trump demonstration near American Airlines Center and social media posts from an account associated with Holmes containing violent political rhetoric and Antifascist Action imagery.
When asked whether firearms were recovered from Holmes or Adrian Garcia, who was also arrested during the demonstration, DPD responded, “Yes.”
“We can confirm the gun that Holmes had on his person was reported stolen at the time of his arrest,” the department told The Dallas Express.
The confirmation comes after an account associated with Holmes publicly responded to an allegation that he possessed a stolen firearm.
“If that gun really was stolen then I would’ve caught a charge for that but lo and behold. I’m not, I’m free. I posted bail,” the Doberman_DFW account wrote following Holmes’ release.
DPD did not say why Holmes has not been publicly charged in connection with the reported stolen firearm.
The Dallas Express also asked whether police were reviewing Holmes’ social media activity, including a post stating, “We’ve been preparing and organizing,” and another displaying “ANTIFASCIST ACTION” imagery alongside violent rhetoric referencing President Donald Trump, ICE, and police.
“The Department does not comment on specific investigative methods, information being reviewed, or potential evidence related to an ongoing investigation,” DPD responded.
“DPD takes potential threats of violence seriously. We will not speculate as to whether specific statements or social media posts constitute a criminal threat or comment on matters that may be part of an ongoing investigation,” DPD added.
Police said there was no additional information to release regarding potential additional charges.
“Should additional charges be filed or releasable information become available, it will be provided through the appropriate channels,” DPD said.
Holmes was previously booked on two counts of assault causing bodily injury and one count of obstructing a highway or passageway stemming from the September 10 demonstration. Those charges are accusations, and Holmes is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
