The Mesquite Police Department stated a man who was suspected of breaking into an apartment was shot during a pursuit by one of the officers responding to the scene.
According to Mesquite Police, the incident occurred on February 12 at approximately 12:09 a.m. Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex located in the 4700 block of Samuell Boulevard in Mesquite after a call came in reporting suspicious activity.
Mesquite Police Officers were warned about a man who was trying to break into an apartment. Upon arrival, officers found the suspect at the scene.
The suspect fled the scene on foot, and officers gave chase through the apartment’s parking lot.
According to Mesquite PD, an “officer-involved shooting occurred” during the chase, in which the officer apparently fired his weapon at the suspect, hitting him several times. The officers performed life-saving measures before the shooter was rushed to a local area hospital.
Mesquite Police said the suspect is now in stable condition. The department also stated a firearm was found at the scene.
Mesquite PD said one of the officers has been with the department for two years, while the other officer has been with the department for one year but has several years of experience from another agency.
