The Texas Film Commission has selected Dallas as a host city for a Digital Media Friendly Texas workshop, part of a statewide effort to attract animation, visual effects, video games, and extended reality production.
The announcement, made June 4 by the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office in the Office of Gov. Greg Abbott, positions Dallas to help communities across the state pursue certification that supports local job creation in digital media industries.
The Dallas workshop is scheduled for July 31, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the North Oak Cliff Branch Library Auditorium, 302 West Tenth Street. A second workshop will take place in Buda in October.
“Texas’ growing media and digital media production industries support local jobs and attract new investment in communities across our great state,” Abbott said in the announcement. “The Texas Film Commission works with our community partners to market their unique skills, attract digital media production, and grow local jobs in animation, visual effects, video games, and extended reality. I invite all Texas communities to attend a workshop to leverage the advantages of being certified as a Digital Media Friendly Texas Community.”
Community leaders from city or county government, convention and visitors bureaus, chambers of commerce, or local economic development corporations are encouraged to attend. Participants must serve as the designated liaison for media production inquiries. Attending a workshop is one of the required steps for certification.
The program builds on existing certified communities, including Cedar Park, Lubbock, Little Elm, Paris, and Rockport. Certification helps localities connect with professionals in digital media sectors and promotes Texas as a destination for production.
The Texas Film Commission, part of the Texas Economic Development & Tourism Office, has promoted film, television, commercial, animation, visual effects, video game, and extended reality production for more than 50 years. The office works to market Texas as a premier business and travel destination.
Registration for the Dallas workshop is available through the TFC Community Liaison Portal for eligible participants. Details are posted on the Texas Film Commission website.
This initiative comes as Texas prepares for additional economic opportunities tied to major events, including the FIFA World Cup 2026, where Dallas will host the International Broadcast Center and the region will see significant visitor activity.
State officials emphasize that the Digital Media Friendly Texas program provides training and guidance to help communities connect with industry professionals and expand their economic base through certification.
