For 13 years, St. Andrew United Methodist Church has hosted the Prom Closet, which provides donated prom dresses to girls from all over the state. Presented by the United Methodist Women of St. Andrew, the Prom Closet offers dresses, shoes, handbags, wraps, and jewelry, all for free.

The closet offers over 3,000 prom dresses to choose from ranging from size zero to thirty, and visitors can bring along one guest over the age of 16 to share the experience. Shoppers must register for an hour-and-a-half-long time slot for their shopping trip.

A volunteer “personal shopper” will assist each girl in choosing a dress, shoes, and accessories. There are over twenty dressing rooms to make sure each girl has her own space to create the prom look of her dreams.

St. Andrew Prom Closet is accepting prom dress donations until February 25 at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Plano. For those who want to help but do not have clothing, shoes, or accessories to donate, St. Andrew has provided an Amazon link where you can purchase items and ship them directly to the church.

In 2020, St. Andrew helped over a thousand girls from 247 schools find gowns and accessories for proms military balls and even helped a prom queen find her dress.

St. Andrew would not be able to make prom dreams come true if not for the many volunteers that help make it a special moment for each girl. In 2019, 509 volunteers assisted with Prom Closet, serving in various areas.

If you are interested in volunteering for the St. Andrew Prom Closet, you can visit the website to sign up. Volunteers for the shopping days must be over 21 and pass a background check.

Girls interested in obtaining a gown through St. Andrew’s Prom Closet can register online beginning February 14. The St. Andrew Prom Closet shopping days will be held at the church, located at 5801 W. Plano Parkway in Plano, on February 15-17, February 19, and February 21-26.
