Among North Texas schools canceling classes due to rising cases of Omicron COVID-19, Lewisville ISD (LISD) will also be closed January 26 through January 31.

According to NBC 5 News, LISD Superintendent Gary Patterson communicated within a letter to parents that staff members are not available to serve as substitutes and cover absences.

“The numbers simply are not in our favor,” Patterson said.

The LISD Superintendent also explained that district-wide absences are enormous: peaking at 1,048 absences on January 21.

Extracurricular activities including athletics and fine arts will continue in the district’s high schools.

In middle schools, some optional fine arts practice sessions will be virtually organized while athletics will be canceled and rescheduled for resumption upon a future date.
