Plano Prestonwood Christian track star Macy Owens has signed a letter of intent to join the Arkansas University track and field program.

“Congratulations to Plano Prestonwood’s multi-event athlete Macy Owens who signs with the University of Arkansas,” the Texas Track & Field Coaches Association posted on Twitter.

Owens was one of four Prestonwood student-athletes recently feted by PCA head of schools Dr. Mike Goddard after they made plans public. Joining Owens at the ceremony was volleyball player Samantha Bergeron who will attend Knox College and basketball players Abryana Odom and Connor Redrow, who will attend the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor and Blinn College, respectively.

“At Prestonwood Christian Academy our goal is that students would enter the classroom or athletic field being challenged to go above and beyond,” Goddard said on the school’s website. “I commend these students for the work, time and effort that they have put into their sports as well as their academics all while giving glory to God.”

Macy may be leaving Prestonwood, but she won’t be soon forgotten, currently holding three individual school records and two relay records at the school. During her sophomore season, Macy was state runner-up in the long jump and 4×100 relay and spent at least a part of her senior season ranked the number two high school hurdler in the state of Texas.

“We are so proud of Macy and all of her accomplishments,” said Coach Sheila Stoutmire. “She will be a huge contributor to University of Arkansas’ track program.”

Macy has also competed for the North Texas Jackrabbits club team, where in 2018 she finished fourth in the heptathlon (15-16 girls) and fourth in the javelin (15-16 girls) among AAU All Americans.
