The Epstein Files Transparency Act has been approved by both the House and the Senate and has now been officially signed into law by President Donald Trump.
This means that the long-sealed files related to Jeffrey Epstein will be made public, bringing renewed national attention to the financier’s extensive network and high-profile connections.
Trump announced on Wednesday evening that he had signed the Epstein Files Transparency Act, authorizing the Justice Department to release unclassified records related to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
“I HAVE JUST SIGNED THE BILL TO RELEASE THE EPSTEIN FILES!” Trump posted on Truth Social, noting that he had personally urged House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune to pass the legislation, which sailed through both chambers with near-unanimous support.
Trump claimed his administration had already provided Congress with nearly 50,000 pages of documents and accused the Biden administration of refusing to release any Epstein-related materials, stating, “The Biden Administration did not turn over a SINGLE file or page related to Democrat Epstein, nor did they ever even speak about him.”
The bill passed the House 421–1 on Tuesday (with only Rep. Clay Higgins, R-La., opposing it) and cleared the Senate by unanimous consent hours later before reaching Trump’s desk.
Sponsored by Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), the measure requires the DOJ to publish all unclassified investigative files, trafficking allegations, internal communications, and records referencing individuals from prior Epstein cases within 30 days in a searchable online format, though victim names, child abuse material, and classified information may be redacted, per Fox News.
Despite supporting the final vote, Speaker Johnson echoed Higgins’ concerns that public disclosure could harm innocent witnesses and deter future informants, warning, “Who’s going to want to come forward if they think Congress can take a political exercise and reveal their identities?”
The U.S. Department of Justice has already unsealed multiple batches of documents, including flight logs, contact books, and other records that illustrate Epstein’s expansive network.
Trump, who was personally mentioned in some of the previously sealed records, has repeatedly shifted his opinions on whether the files should be fully released to the public.
“This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!” wrote the President on social media in July.
However, these sentiments have not always been the President’s stance on the matter.
Trump has claimed that the files are “pretty boring stuff” and said that he cannot understand why “the Jeffrey Epstein case would be of interest to anybody.”
“And I would say that, you know, these files were made up by Comey. They were made up by Obama. They were made up by the Biden [administration]. And we went through years of that with the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax. With all of the different things that we had to go through. We’ve gone through years of it,” he added, as reported by DX.
Additionally, the President has stated that “only pretty bad people, including fake news, want to keep something like that going,” adding that he would be in support of releasing “Anything that’s credible.”
Regardless, Trump has now made his official decision, releasing the files to the public. Time will soon reveal the truth.
