An Orange County, Florida, mother killed her 4-year-old daughter and then attempted to kill herself on Monday, said Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez.

On January 10, police arrived at the Star Island Resort, located at 5000 Avenue of the Stars in Kissimmee, Florida after receiving a call of an “attempted suicide.”

Hotel security performed a welfare check on the woman, identified as Jacinda Decaro, after her mother, Michelle Decaro, could not reach her.

Deputies said in a press release, “Michelle and Jacinda worked together and Jacinda had failed to show up to work.”

Once security gained access to the room, they found Jacinda and her 4-year-old daughter, Masiela, unresponsive on the bed in the hotel bedroom.

The sheriff’s office said a note was discovered on the nightstand, reading, “I’m sorry.”

They also added, “Jacinda had a faint pulse and was transported to Advent Health Celebration for lifesaving measures. Unfortunately, Masiela was declared deceased on scene.”

Lopez told ClickonOrlando News, “We don’t know at this time if [Jacinda] is gonna pull through or not.”

Masiela’s father, Jorge Ezequiel, said, “It’s shocking. It’s surprising. It’s really disappointing that someone that I used to value and think so highly of just gave up and decided to do what she wanted to do and ended up costing my daughter’s life.”

An investigation is in progress, but officials do not think anyone else was involved in the case.
