The Dallas Mavericks currently boast a record of just 3-7, and multiple front office executives are reportedly considering drastic moves in an attempt to turn the franchise around.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the Mavericks’ front office expected the team to compete for a championship during the 2025-26 NBA season, but those hopes quickly dissipated following a disastrous start to the season.

The Mavericks are currently ranked 29th in the league in offensive rating, with the team’s net rating also sitting at -6.2, which is the 24th-worst mark among all teams in the league.

The ongoing issues are now seemingly causing tension in the front office.

NBA Insider Marc Stein reported on Sunday that the job security of general manager Nico Harrison has come into question, writing that “the rising and virtually ceaseless negativity that surrounds the franchise is indeed wearing on and troubling ownership.”

This restlessness in the front office stems from the fact that many fans have vocalized their distrust of Harrison during games, following the blockbuster trade of Luka Dončić last season. Fans have frequently serenaded the general manager with “Fire Nico” chants, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.

Mavericks owner and governor Patrick Dumont would seemingly prefer to retain Harrison in case the season turns around, as he also reportedly feels responsible for the Dončić trade due to his approval of the deal.

Stein further wrote that Harrison would be removed from the organization in an attempt to win back fans while also changing the overall “vibe” of the team.

The NBA Insider explained that Harrison could also be fired “based on the premise that the front office executive who conceived and pushed for the widely criticized Dončić deal can no longer be the one trying to pilot the organization past it.”

These reports line up with recent comments made by Mavericks reporter Tim McMahon, who said that it is a “legitimate question” to ask whether Harrison’s job is in “serious jeopardy.”

Realistically, the Mavericks must find a way into the playoffs to avoid major changes within the front office, though it appears increasingly unlikely that this team is destined for the postseason.

The Mavericks are currently just 3-7 and sit in 14th place in the Western Conference, meaning the team must find a way to start stringing together wins to make the playoffs.

Luckily, Dallas is still only 0.5 games behind the Memphis Grizzlies for the 10th seed in the conference, meaning this team could sneak into the playoffs despite the disastrous start to the season.

Additionally, there are still 72 games remaining in the season, with the Mavericks also expecting to improve in terms of both on-court performance and health, which has been an ongoing issue for this team to begin the year.

Dallas is set to take on the Milwaukee Bucks Monday at 7:30 p.m., followed by a matchup against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
