Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy is considering moving his company out of New York City after the election of Zohran Mamdani as mayor.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Mamdani claimed victory on Tuesday after months of promises that have included rent freezes, public banking, and “a city reborn.”

Portnoy, who has consistently voiced his political opinions, openly criticized Mamdani and stated that he considered relocating the company due to his disdain for the New York Mayor.

“I hate the guy,” said Portnoy, per Fox Business. “I can’t stand the thought of him running New York City. I can’t stand it.”

These comments come months after Portnoy claimed that Mamdani was “one of the worst, scariest candidates” running for the position of New York Mayor.

“He hates capitalism, he wants a fundamental shift in what has built this country, and he doesn’t really particularly hide it,” said Portnoy during an interview with Fox Business in July.

Portnoy said he remains skeptical about whether Mamdani’s election will impact the company, prompting him to instruct the Barstool staff to investigate potential moves to another city.

“A part of me is like, how much will actually change? But I really have given it thought,” he explained, per Fox Business.

“I told our finance guys to start looking around for property, no joke. Take a principled stand.”

Portnoy later explained that he would prefer to relocate the company entirely out of Manhattan, but the move is unlikely due to the negative impact it would have on employees.

“I don’t want to f*cking have an office [in Manhattan],” said the Barstool Sports founder, according to Fox Business.

“But then we have all those people who, like, that f*cked up their life because I hate the guy. Like, all the people in the New York office have to go to Jersey City or … Hoboken. So it’s a Catch-22.”

Portnoy is not the only well-known figure who has openly criticized Mamdani for his actions and statements.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Houston Mayor John Whitmire recently took shots at the New York Mayor due to his comments about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
