The Houston Police Officers’ Union is openly recruiting NYPD officers following Zohran Mamdani’s election as New York City mayor, WFAA reported. In a social media post, the union invited officers “disgusted” with the result to join Houston, highlighting a 36.5% pay raise over five years, a supportive mayor and city council, a police chief who is a retired Texas Ranger, and benefits including affordable housing, insurance, and a DROP retirement program.
Mamdani, 34, a Democratic Socialist and former state lawmaker, became New York’s first Muslim and South Asian mayor — and its youngest in more than a century. After previously criticizing the NYPD, he apologized and said he would ask the current commissioner to stay on.
