Substitute teachers are getting a pay raise. The Dallas Independent School District is set to entice substitute teachers by offering them an extra $50 daily.

The school district is currently dealing with a shortage of teachers after it was negatively impacted by the highly contagious Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus.

According to FOX 4 News, Sherry Christian, Dallas ISD’s deputy chief of staff, revealed that the district is seeing an increase in the number of positive tests amongst its staff.

The district revealed that over two hundred of its ten thousand teachers have called in sick since last week.

The school district is offering the incentive to attract more substitute teachers to fill the vacuum left by the increased shortage of teachers and staff.

“One strategy is central staff are subbing in several of our classrooms,” Christian said.

The district revealed that teachers who test positive for COVID-19 but do not show symptoms of the virus only have to be isolated for five days.
