Texas Gov. Greg Abbott invites veterans, service members, and military spouses to participate in the state’s annual ‘Hiring Red, White & You!‘ job fair series, running from November 4 through November 20.
The statewide hiring events aim to connect military talent with Texas employers across multiple industries. The initiative matters because Texas seeks to leverage its 1.7 million veterans and active-duty military members to strengthen the state’s economy. Since 2012, the program has facilitated over 4,300 same-day hires.
“The talent of our brave veterans who answered the call to serve our nation is a large part of the Texas economic engine,” said Abbott. “The skills and mission-driven mindset of our veterans brings [sic] a competitive advantage to any business in our state.”
The Texas Workforce Commission, in partnership with the Texas Veterans Commission and the Texas Medical Center, will host more than 30 free events statewide, including three in the DFW metroplex:
- November 4 at Globe Life Field, 734 Stadium Drive, in Arlington
- November 5 at Marriott Dallas Allen Hotel& Convention Center, 777 Watters Creek Blvd., in Allen
- November 13 at Gilley’s, 1135 Botham Jean Blvd., in Dallas
All three DFW job fair events run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For a full list of the events and participating employers, click here.
Since launching in 2012, the program has connected 26,000 employers with 153,000 job seekers. Veterans comprised 52,500 of those participants.
Employers can participate at no cost and may qualify for federal tax credits up to $9,600 per veteran hire. The state’s WeHireVets initiative recognizes businesses where veterans represent at least 10% of employees.
“It’s important that we continue to serve those who served, and do so with priority, resources, and commitment,” said TWC Chairman Joe Esparza. “From navigating the transition to civilian life to connecting with meaningful careers, Hiring Red, White & You! events make a difference in the lives of veterans across Texas.”
TWC Commissioner Alberto Treviño III emphasized the economic impact of Texas veterans.
“Texas is home to more than 1.7 million veterans and serving military members whose skills and experience are crucial contributors to the state’s economic success,” he said.
Commissioner Brent Connett highlighted veterans’ broader contributions to the community.
“Texas recognizes the invaluable skills and experience that veterans bring, not only to the workforce but to every aspect of our community,” Connett said.
