A 3-year-old boy remains on life support with no brain activity after alleged abuse, leading to the arrests of his mother and her boyfriend in McKinney.

Chelsea Rene Berg, 30, and Christopher Thomas Alexander, 30, were taken into custody on October 16 following the hospitalization of Berg’s son, Dawson Cain Zamora, Fox 4 KDFW reported. Alexander brought the child to the hospital on October 14, claiming he had heard a “thud” and found Dawson injured.

Hospital staff, noting injuries inconsistent with Alexander’s account, alerted police. The injuries included severe brain trauma with bleeding, widespread bruising in various healing stages, chest and stomach wounds, and anal trauma.

Berg told detectives she left Dawson with Alexander at 7:20 a.m. that day. After a text about Dawson eating lunch, Alexander called her in a panic, saying he was rushing the child to the hospital. At the hospital, Alexander offered no further explanation and, with an attorney, declined to speak with police.

Berg, shown photos of Dawson’s injuries, insisted they were not present when she left for work.

A warrant for Alexander’s arrest was issued on October 14. He faces charges of injury to a child, stalking, and tampering with evidence to impair the investigation, with bonds totaling $210,000. Berg, charged with injury to a child, a first-degree felony, was released on a $100,000 bond the same day but is barred from contacting her son.

On October 19, Berg learned Dawson had no brain activity and faced removal from life support. Her attorney filed an emergency motion to modify bond conditions, seeking supervised access to “say goodbye to her son before he passes away.”

Dawson’s biological father, Dahrian Zamora, declined to comment, citing his son’s bedside vigil and the ongoing police investigation. However, he did post a statement on Facebook to “clear the air and let you guys know what’s going on.” He stated that the child had been “brutally beaten” by his ex-wife’s boyfriend and was now in a medically induced coma and on life support.

“He Is surrounded by friends and family with so much love and support. My Son Dawson is not ok, our family is not ok, I’m not ok… all I ask is that you keep my Son in your thoughts, pray for justice, pray for healing & comfort over my Son. He is loved and he is not alone,” Zamora wrote.

A family member urged prayers for Dawson, stating, “No child should ever have to endure what Dawson has been through.”

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help Dawson’s family cover medical care and living expenses while the child is in the hospital.
