Authorities have issued a Silver Alert for Julie Straus, the 64-year-old wife of former Texas House Speaker Joe Straus III, last seen Thursday evening in an upscale Terrell Hills neighborhood.
Terrell Hills Police Chief Nicholas Benson confirmed the connection in a call to KSAT. Julie Straus was reported missing around 6:40 p.m. in the 200 block of Geneseo Road, off Broadway.
She stands 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds, has black hair, and hazel eyes. She was last seen wearing a black sweater, black leggings, and black-and-white tennis shoes.
Police urged residents not to panic over the heavy presence in the area but to check properties for any sign of her.
Joe Straus served as House speaker from 2009 to 2019. Current Speaker Dustin Burrows posted support on social media.
“Our hearts are heavy as we pray for the safe return of Julie Straus, wife of former Texas House Speaker Joe Straus,” Burrows wrote. “Elisabeth and I are holding the Straus family close in our thoughts, and the entire Texas Legislature is embracing them with love and support.”
Burrows added, “Let’s join together as Texans and keep Julie and the Straus family in our prayers.”
