The situation we find ourselves in with respect to immigration in America is absolutely flabbergasting.
The majority of Americans are in favor of simply enforcing our nation’s immigration laws as they exist on the books today, laws that were duly passed through the years via proper and regular bipartisan legislative action.
The enforcement of those laws falls appropriately to the executive branch under President Donald Trump, and that basic border enforcement is exactly what his administration has been doing since it came to office last January.
The radical left, meanwhile—now represented by the Democratic Party, the mainstream media, and the administrations, faculties, and students of far too many of our universities, to name but a few of our institutions where they exert near-absolute control—insists that we ignore those laws and throw the border completely open. They further demand that we grant, simply on their say-so and with no legal process whatsoever, full Constitutional rights and the complete slate of government benefits to illegal aliens who by their very presence here are already lawbreakers.
That is, in fact, exactly what occurred throughout the Biden administration. Our previous president’s puppeteers simply ignored our nation’s laws and allowed some 10 million unvetted illegal immigrants to enter our country during its four years in power, even spending vast uncounted sums of your tax dollars to jet them around the nation, seemingly, to my eye anyway, to those areas where their vast numbers could sway census counts enough to increase Democratic Party power.
At no point has there been any real effort to argue that this massive immigration wave was in any way beneficial to us as Americans. Nor has there been any real effort to convince our citizenry that a change in our laws was warranted.
Oh, there was that sham bill that was touted by the breathtakingly dishonest members of Biden’s administration as the “only way” to staunch the tidal wave of illegal immigrants that they facilitated. The bill would in fact have cemented radically higher levels of immigration in perpetuity, and of course the administration’s lies about were fully exposed when the new administration shut the immigration spigot almost completely by simply enforcing the existing laws.
Since last January, the radical left abandoned any effort to persuade people to change the laws and has launched instead a universal verbal assault on the new administration and our law enforcement officers who have the responsibilities to enforce those laws. That nonstop barrage of abusive language has also propelled a wave of physical assaults on our immigration law enforcement officers (LEOs) across the nation.
We have cities and states that have declared they will not abide by or enforce our federal laws.
We have mayors and governors and police chiefs directing their own police forces to defy and even obstruct federal agents who are simply doing their jobs.
And yet almost everyone behaves as though this is all perfectly normal.
I have followed politics closely my entire now-lengthy adult life, and I have never before witnessed the likes of this wholesale assault on our nation’s laws and its law enforcement institutions. To make matters worse, we now have a whole class of Obama- and Biden-appointed federal judges who don’t accept their responsibility of ruling on laws as they’re written, substituting instead the issuing of far-left alternative rules of their own personal making. “Due process” for illegal immigrants, which until about five minutes ago consisted the of two basic steps of 1. demonstrating that a person got here by breaking our immigration regulations, and then 2. deporting him or her, has now been transformed by these lawless jurists into an endless series of “legal” appeals, with judicial mandates that they stay here in the country on our dime in the meantime.
Democrats have also invented from whole cloth a brand-new rule that only illegal immigrants who have broken additional laws should be subject to deportation, as if the whole point of immigration law wasn’t to ensure that newcomers to our land adhere to the legal immigration requirements to gain entry in the first place.
It’s a bit rich that the Democrats, who are constantly wailing about “saving our democracy,” are nonetheless ignoring, every single day, both the clear wishes of the vast majority of the American people and the clear letter of our laws that they had a hand in creating.
It’s not often I quote Bob Dole, but here we go: “Where is the outrage?”
