Walmart has announced that it is teaming up with OpenAI to let customers shop directly through ChatGPT, introducing AI-powered tools to transform the online shopping experience.
The collaboration between two of the largest companies in the United States includes various new features such as Instant Checkout, which will allow shoppers to complete purchases entirely within ChatGPT, according to a Walmart news release.
Walmart said the initiative marks a shift “from reactive to proactive” retail, where AI “learns, plans, and predicts, helping customers anticipate their needs before they do.”
Doug McMillon, president and CEO of Walmart Inc., said, “For many years now, eCommerce shopping experiences have consisted of a search bar and a long list of item responses. There is a native AI experience coming that is multimedia, personalized, and contextual. We are running toward that more enjoyable and convenient future with Sparky and through partnerships including this important step with OpenAI.”
OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman said the collaboration is “just one way AI will help people every day under our work together.”
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, experts estimate AI could replace up to 100 million U.S. jobs over the next decade, and Amazon has reportedly begun new rounds of layoffs tied to automation.
