U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers detained a man at the Laredo Port of Entry along the United States and Mexican border on Wednesday, January 5, after discovering that he held an outstanding warrant for child molestation from Noblesville, Indiana.
Roberto Casso, a 79-year-old American citizen, was traveling from Mexico to the United States. Upon arriving at the Gateway to the Americas International Bridge, a CBP officer escorted Casso to obtain a secondary inspection, Texas Border Business reported.
According to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, they use “subsequent biometric verification through law enforcement databases.” The result of a search on Casso showed that the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in Noblesville, Indiana, had issued him a felony warrant that border officers confirmed was active. LMT Online stated that allegedly Casso had been involved in the continued child molestation of a child younger than fourteen years old.
Laredo Port of Entry Director Albert Flores stated, “Our officers remain vigilant in keeping our borders secure, and apprehending wanted persons with outstanding warrants is an important part of carrying out our border security mission.”
Roberto Casso is currently in custody at the Webb County Sheriff’s Office.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection explains that “the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is a centralized, automated database designed to share information among law enforcement agencies including outstanding warrants for a wide range of offenses.” Using this active database, CBP officers have detained suspects of military desertion, larceny, fraud, escape, robbery, money laundering, sexual abuse of children, narcotics distribution, and homicide.
The case against Roberto Casso has yet to be determined, as the information authorities have at this time is based on allegations.
