Dallas residents have once again spoken out against the repeated issue of porch pirates stealing packages across the city.
The most recent incident comes as one Dallas resident from Lower Greenville posted on the Ring Neighborhood application to highlight the issue, and included a video of an alleged theft that took place.
In the video, a woman wearing jeans, a black shirt, and a baseball hat is seen quickly approaching the front door before collecting multiple packages that were left for the resident.
Many of these neighbors have reported seeing this same woman allegedly stealing packages in their area.
“Looks like the same lady who has been on here a lot. I think there was a post where someone said they know who she is,” wrote one comment.
“This is the same woman that keeps stealing,” claimed another.
“She tries changing outfits to fool the folks, but just the same porch pirate,” stated another resident.
One resident suggested reaching out to the Dallas Police Department (DPD) for assistance.
“If you can, please report the crime through Dallas PD’s online portal (it only takes a few minutes). They do review the reports and assign detectives who follow up. Also, if it turns out a person stole from 10 addresses, that’s a felony in Texas – punishable by up to 2 years in jail and a fine up to $10k. Every report helps!” they wrote.
The original resident posted in the thread to confirm that she had submitted a police report; however, it remains unclear whether the department followed up with her.
Residents have repeatedly stated that the DPD does little to assist these types of issues, with many residents suggesting alternative methods, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
The Dallas City Council has continued to fail to adhere to the mandates in Proposition U, passed by residents in 2024. Proposition U requires the city to maintain at least 4,000 sworn officers and to ensure that starting combined salary and non-pension benefits for DPD officers are ranked in the top five among police departments in Dallas, Collin, Tarrant, Denton, and Rockwall counties with populations over 50,000.
