Officers with the Denton Police Department arrested a student for allegedly making terroristic threats about a local high school.

Denton police arrested a male student on October 2, according to a press release from the department. He has been charged with making a terroristic threat regarding Billy Ryan High School.

A student resource officer learned of “potentially threatening online communications” about the school earlier that day, and the department immediately launched an investigation with Denton ISD staff.

Before the school day, officers contacted a student at the school and took him into custody “without incident.” They brought him to the Denton County Juvenile Detention Center. 

“Student safety remains the highest priority for Denton PD and the Denton Independent School District,” the release reads. “The department is committed to thoroughly investigating all reported threats and holding individuals accountable to ensure a safe and secure learning environment.”

The Dallas Express contacted Denton police, but a representative declined to comment due to the active investigation.

When students at the University of North Texas in Denton threatened a peer who condemned celebrations of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Attorney General Ken Paxton called for their expulsion, as The Dallas Express exclusively reported.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has been encouraging members of the public to report suspicious activity to its iWatch Texas app, as The Dallas Express also reported. Last fall, North Texas schools experienced a surge in online threats.
