Texas authorities captured a Venezuelan gang member and convicted child killer who jumped from a hotel window in El Paso last month.
Alexis Ramon Perozo-Monasterio, 36, was apprehended on September 4 after attempting to flee from the second floor of an El Paso hotel, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
The arrest highlights ongoing concerns about violent criminals entering the U.S. illegally, particularly members of Venezuela’s notorious Tren de Aragua gang. The capture occurred during Operation Lone Star, Texas’ border security initiative.
DPS special agents received a tip about Perozo-Monasterio’s location that morning. When agents arrived, he attempted to escape by jumping out a window.
Investigators later confirmed Perozo-Monasterio had escaped from a Venezuelan prison, where he was serving a 17-year sentence for raping and murdering a 10-year-old child. He is a confirmed member of Tren de Aragua (TdA), a violent transnational gang.
Authorities said the fugitive had entered the United States illegally multiple times. Customs and Border Protection charged him with alien inadmissibility in April 2023.
DPS agents coordinated with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), and U.S. Border Patrol to apprehend him. Following his capture, Perozo-Monasterio was transferred to ICE custody.
ICE subsequently removed him from the United States. His current location and status remain unclear.
