Dallas police arrested a robbery suspect and subsequently used intelligence from that arrest to apprehend an alleged fentanyl dealer.
The Southwest Crime Response Team’s September 25 traffic stop of Ricardo Cabriales, 35, led officers to Edgar Cayetano, a convicted felon allegedly dealing fentanyl in the area.
Officers arrested Cabriales for allegedly robbing a business on West Illinois Avenue on September 7. During their investigation, detectives learned about Cayetano, 37, who had an outstanding warrant for a probation violation.
Police found Cayetano the next day on Marvin D Love Freeway. He possessed 11 grams of fentanyl, 8.9 grams of methamphetamine, a handgun, and nearly $700 in cash.
Authorities charged Cayetano with two counts of first-degree felony drug manufacturing and delivery. They added a second-degree felony charge for unlawfully carrying a weapon as a convicted felon.
Major Raymario Sanchez, commander of the Southwest Patrol Division, praised his officers’ thoroughness.
“Chasing down every lead in an investigation is good police work. Our CRT and Deployment officers took the initiative to follow up on information about a fentanyl dealer operating in Dallas and took him and his dangerous drugs off the street.”
The cases highlight how routine arrests can snowball into larger drug busts. Both investigations remain open under case numbers 12047-2025 and 138814-2025.
