The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) captured a convicted murderer from Mexico during an Operation Lone Star traffic stop in Laredo on September 25.

DPS Criminal Investigations Division Special Agents and Troopers stopped a black Chevrolet Malibu around 9 a.m. near San Luis and Monterrey Street. The driver, Gregorio Denova-Cantu, 51, was identified as an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

Investigators determined Denova-Cantu was an aggravated deported felon who reentered the United States after serving 18 years in prison for murder. He is also a confirmed ranking member of the Hermandad de Pistoleros Latinos gang.
