The Hillshire Brands Company, a Haltom City-based subsidiary of Tyson Foods, is recalling roughly 58 million pounds of frozen corn dogs and pancake sausage products after reports of wood pieces embedded in batter, federal food safety officials announced.
Scope of Recall
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said on Saturday the recall affects State Fair Corn Dogs on a Stick and Jimmy Dean Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick packaged between March 17, 2025, and September 26, 2025.
Affected products bear establishment numbers “EST-582” or “P-894” on the packaging. They were sold nationwide online, at retail stores, to food service providers, and to school districts and Department of Defense facilities. FSIS noted the items were not part of the USDA’s National School Lunch Program.
Injuries and Cause
The issue came to light after Hillshire Brands received multiple consumer complaints, including five reports of injuries. An internal investigation determined that wooden sticks entered the production process before battering at one Haltom City facility.
Tyson Foods, Hillshire’s parent company, said it initiated the recall “out of an abundance of caution.”
Consumer Guidance
No additional injuries have been reported, but FSIS warned the products may still be in household, school, or institutional refrigerators and freezers. Consumers are urged to discard the products or return them to the place of purchase.
The agency will conduct recall effectiveness checks to ensure the products are removed from circulation and that Hillshire properly notifies customers.
