FBI Director Kash Patel said the gunman in the September 24 Dallas ICE facility attack deliberately targeted Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
Federal officials identified the shooter as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
On Wednesday morning, Jahn allegedly opened fire from a rooftop overlooking the sallyport of the Dallas ICE field office as detainees were being transferred. One detainee was killed, two critically wounded, and Jahn reportedly turned the gun on himself, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Patel posted an update on X outlining evidence gathered during the investigation:
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, the Dallas attack comes amid a surge in violence against ICE personnel. DHS recently reported a 1,000% increase in assaults on ICE officers in recent years, raising concerns that anti-ICE rhetoric is fueling targeted political violence.
The Dallas ICE field office remains closed following the attack and is expected to reopen next week, according to officials.
