Cornel West, a professor and political activist, abruptly left a panel discussion on Piers Morgan Uncensored after becoming agitated when Morgan pressed him on whether his political rhetoric contributed to the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was assassinated during a Q&A with students at Utah Valley University on September 10. The event marked the first stop of TPUSA’s “American Comeback Tour.”
“Well, I think part of the deeper problem though, brother Pierce, is that the organized greed and weaponized hatred and routinized indifference toward the vulnerable has come together in such a way that it has eroded the sources of character formation, so that integrity, honesty, decency and self-critical sensibilities in of individuals and groups is more and more disappearing,” West responded.
The Crucible podcast co-host Andrew Wilson challenged West. He noted that West has repeatedly referred to the Trump administration as a “neo-fascist” government.
“Yes indeed, you’re absolutely right,” West replied.
The exchange grew heated, and West lashed out at Morgan, accusing Morgan of turning the panel into a circus for profit rather than serious dialogue.
“It’s a joke, man! It’s not worth it!” West shouted before storming off the set.
Morgan stated that the progressive left’s repeated rhetoric over the past nine years has influenced young people, convincing some that they must stop alleged fascists, which he argued contributed to Kirk’s assassination.
Other activists have also faced backlash for their responses to Kirk’s killing. As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Fort Worth Councilwoman Elizabeth Beck drew criticism for posting “Unfortunate” over a screenshot of Kirk just minutes after his death. She later deleted the post after widespread outrage.
