Fort Worth Democrat Councilwoman Elizabeth Beck is facing fresh backlash — not only for her social media post after the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk but also for receiving taxpayer-funded police security at her home.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Beck came under fire after posting an Instagram story that featured a Newsweek headline quoting Kirk on Second Amendment rights with the word “Unfortunate” written over his photo. DX was first to highlight the post publicly on X after CEO Chris Putnam discovered it.

WFAA confirmed that Beck has since received security monitoring at her home following the public outrage.

“The safety and security of public officials is a matter of public concern. When circumstances warrant, FWPD may provide protection to ensure the safety of both the individual and the community. Decisions regarding resource allocation are based solely on public safety assessments, not on personal viewpoints or opinions expressed,” the Fort Worth Police Department said in a statement.

But The Dallas Express has confirmed through sources that former Mayor Betsy Price, despite facing threats and protesters at her home during the Black Lives Matter demonstrations in 2020, was not provided comparable police protection.

Last year, Beck also faced criticism from two widows of fallen officers for alleged disrespectful behavior toward the police.

When asked if officers had been allowed to decline the assignment given Beck’s past comments and her lack of support for law enforcement, FWPD responded: “FWPD officers are assigned to duties based on operational needs. As with any assignment, officers are expected to carry out their responsibilities professionally, regardless of personal beliefs or opinions.”

“The Fort Worth Police Department remains committed to fulfilling its duty to protect and serve without bias. FWPD does not take positions on personal or political decisions made by elected officials. Our focus remains on ensuring public safety and maintaining professionalism in all aspects of our work,” FWPD added.

The Dallas Express reached out to the Fort Worth Police Department again to ask how much taxpayer money is being spent to protect Councilwoman Beck but did not receive a response by press time.
