The Collin County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to help solve a string of car burglaries, shown in surveillance footage.

The sheriff’s office released video showing a masked man in a hoodie, checking car doors and rifling through vehicles, in the Inspiration neighborhood overnight September 4 and 5. Collin County Sgt. Jessica Pond told The Dallas Express that this took place near St. Paul and Wylie.

“As seen in the video footage we released, the individuals appear to be going driveway to driveway checking for unlocked vehicles, and only entering those that are unsecured,” Pond said. “At this time, we have not made progress in identifying the suspects.”

The sheriff’s office is currently working to identify the suspects. Officials asked nearby residents to review their surveillance footage for anything out of the ordinary – such as people walking on driveways, checking car handles, or generally acting suspicious.

If residents have tips or videos, the sheriff’s office asked them to contact Investigator Hardin at [email protected] or 972.547.5121. Residents can also message the sheriff’s office on Facebook.

“Our investigators are continuing standard follow-up efforts, including canvassing the area for additional surveillance footage or witnesses,” Pond said. “We’re also working to generate more leads through community engagement on social media.”

If residents see suspicious behavior or a crime in progress, they should call 911, according to Pond. They can also contact the sheriff’s non-emergency line at 972-547-5100.

“We’re also encouraging everyone to lock their vehicles at night, remove valuables, and stay alert,” she said. “Most of these crimes are crimes of opportunity, and a locked door is often the best deterrent.”
