Garland officials approved a lease agreement Monday for a $70.87 million soccer complex that will house Atlético Dallas’ training facility ahead of the team’s 2027 debut season.
The deal marks a major step in transforming the North Texas suburb into a regional soccer destination while bringing the area’s first United Soccer League Championship club.
The Garland Foundation for Development voted on August 5 to lease land at Holford Road and President George Bush Turnpike for the project. The complex will feature a 22,000-square-foot training facility with team offices, locker rooms, therapy centers, and dining facilities.
Plans include a showcase field with natural turf and 2,000-seat capacity for spectators. The development will also house multiple training fields, futsal courts, concession stands, and public walking trails.
“This project is about more than soccer — it’s about building something enduring for the people of Garland,” Mayor Dylan Hedrick said. “We’re taking a bold step forward in our ongoing commitment to providing quality-of-life amenities that attract new development and promote regional tourism.”
Nearly 14 acres of adjacent commercial land could eventually host hotels, apartments, and retail spaces. The mixed-use approach aims to serve both residents and visiting soccer fans.
Atlético Dallas will manage the facilities and operate youth academy programs under the long-term public-private partnership. The City Council previously approved lease negotiations during its June 17 meeting.
“We’re excited to partner with the City of Garland to build a place where dreams are born, talent is nurtured, and the Garland community thrives,” said Matt Valentine, the club’s co-founder and chairman. “Beyond just fields and facilities, this is an opportunity to bring professional sports to Garland and to create a pipeline for top youth prospects to reach the professional level.”
Construction is expected to begin in 2026 with completion targeted for 2027. The complex will host recreational leagues, competitive tournaments, and year-round youth training programs.
The City of Garland said the development “will be thoughtfully designed to preserve the area’s natural beauty, especially the nearby Spring Creek Forest Preserve, which holds ecological and historical significance to the community.”
